Montecito
Wide horizontal mahogany boards under a deep stone portal — the Montecito is a warm, oversized pivot door for coastal-modern and Mediterranean-modern homes.
The Montecito is built from broad horizontal planks of mahogany, each board wide enough to show real figure, stacked to the full height of the opening. Horizontal boards make a tall door feel grounded and generous rather than narrow, which is why the Montecito is a favourite for houses with strong horizontal architecture — flat roofs, long stone walls, deep overhangs.
In the project shown, the door sits inside a tall limestone portal with a glass transom above, finished in a rich reddish-brown stain that plays against the pale stone. A slim vertical bar pull keeps the hardware minimal. The same design in a lighter stain suits white plaster and Mediterranean-modern facades.
Built on pivot hardware, the Montecito can be made up to 144″ tall and 81″ wide under Florida Product Approval FL28370, hurricane-rated with two 5-point lock sets. Board width is chosen so the courses divide the door height evenly. The slab is built 3″ thick in solid mahogany.
